Scandals during a live lottery draw

Many people regularly buy lotteries or play online at the NolimitWay casino website in the hope of winning a large sum of money to support them for life. More often than not, they prefer offline lotteries, the draws of which are often live, where everything in theory should be fair. And when the cheating happens right in front of the audience, it stays in their memories for a long time.

The scam in Ireland

In 2017, viewers of an Irish lottery draw saw a scam on live television. The footage showed an unusual ball from a lotto machine with two different numbers – 33 and 38. Screenshots immediately went viral on the internet, and users began to share their comments about it.
All this led to an investigation by the Operator of the National Lottery of Ireland. The organisation claimed that the winning ball was a 38, and no second number had been placed on it. Allegedly it was all an illusion due to a feature of the studio’s lighting fixtures. The operator assured that no manipulation with the equipment was made and the entire draw was fair. Moreover, the results of the drawing are recorded by independent observers who confirmed this version. But not all spectators believed it.

Special balloons in the USA

In Pennsylvania, Daily Number lottery host Nick Perry decided to make a fast buck from his job. He hatched a cunning plan and enlisted others to help him. One of the accomplices was a State Lottery Security Officer, who gave Nick Perry access to the inventory room.
The host was able to weight all the balls except 4 and 6, allowing him to identify all the winning combinations. With the help of other accomplices, Perry obtained hundreds of tickets with numbers that could be successful. The result was a winning combination of 666, but the lottery operator pointed out the excessive number of winning tickets.
Things ended sadly for Nick. He was sentenced to prison and the lottery received a serious blow to his reputation. Perhaps Perry was relieved that his story was the basis for the plot of the film Lucky Numbers with John Travolta.

The Italian Deception

Offline lottery

In the 1990s, the influence of the Mafia in Italy was almost limitless. It controlled all spheres of activity and, not surprisingly, it intervened in lotteries. However, the mafiosi were able to attract government officials to their scams as well. The scam lasted for about 10 years, and each time a new method of fraud was devised. In total all the participants of this story were able to earn more than 100 million Euros.
One of the most effective ways to cheat was in Milan’s lottery, where children were blindfolded and pulled the balls out of the lottery machine. The mobsters devised a cunning plan. They managed to persuade the children to take out only certain balls. To do this, various methods of “prompting” were used. The balls were heated, cooled, and invisible marks were placed on them.
All these stories did not add to the reputation and respect of lottery organisers. However, there are still enough people in the world who dream of winning enough money to live a comfortable life with just one ticket.
